The Newark Landmarks & Historic Preservation Commission signed off on this multifamily development that will consist of fifteen residential units on four stories. It will be a mix of one and two bedroom units, with two deluxe three-bedroom duplex units on the top floors.
Due to the geographical location of the site, we faced the challenge of having one end of the lot facing the Lincoln Park Historic District and the opposite end facing Beecher Street to a more contemporary vibe. In order to bring these two distinct areas together, we employed a design strategy that creates a gradient blend between the historic façade at one end and a contemporary look at the other. Our design reflects and enhances the historic character of the Lincoln Park frontage while also blending it with the more modern design of other developments along Beecher Street.

Lincoln Park frontage
The floor to floor heights have been replicated from the adjacent structure in order to maintain the consistency of the row of homes along the Lincoln Park frontage. We also aimed to preserve the window spacing and rhythm and are using an aluminum clad wood window system in a bronze color. The brick at one end will be a historic red brick with a 1/4” raked mortar joint, and at the other, it will be a plum brick with a flush mortar joint. Railings will be white painted iron rails at both the front steps and at the roof decks.
